Seems obvious. What should our new forum look like, feel like, smell like? Post your entries with a screen shot into this thread. You can submit several times until 7 days from now, which is July 11, 2013. All of your entries will compete in a vote. The winning design will be implemented as closely as technically possible, in the week after the poll closes. Your name will be honoured as the first one to have won the design contests. Expect a repeat of this contest every year. If you are thinking of creating just a banner, please also create a colour scheme for the rest of the site.

Bumping the sh*t out of this thread! I'm an idiot when it comes to graphics but I'd love people to see this post and contribute!

As y'all know I've been working on something. So this morning I set up a demo forum set up for you illustrating a theme. It is a real-life test; what you see is how it will look like on your system. No surprises with screenshots here- but once I get div widths finalized I'll post one. The banner on here is not a final decision on my entry- in fact I'm working on a few others and I plan to have a couple themes proposed by the end of the week. This one, I saw this base and thought it might be a contender. The banner will likely be lengthened at some point. On my screen it looks like I need to extend the width of the main div container to use some of that that screen-screen on the edges... but I I'd like to see what it looks like on other peoples screens. If the div is in percent it will not be as big an issue for people- esp. with wide-screens... If it's in absolute pixels it will state the same and look smaller on larger screens. Percent is a good way to go... except for banners.... though there are tricks for that though they require editing the template. Also, I plan on changing out the trees (the new thread indicators) unless people like them. I don't dislike them but don't see how they'd be related. As for other themes I did find one that looked cool but had more of an underground and elite feel doesn't remind me of this community.. as for others I'm thinking a purple or bluish theme would be good if they aren't overdone. It's way to easy for me to overdo purple so... So far this is one of the nicer bases I've found- the reason for using an existing base is that it helps make everything look consistent... especially with only a weeks time. Otherwise I'd have to make all the icons from scratch and they really need to be consistent. I can do that but I don't think it can be a priority right now. Though there are also icon sets there we can implement. allpathsdemo.boards.net

I dig the color scheme and the banner but it's a few shades dark for me. I can't read low contrast very well. Is there any way leave the background the same color and brighten the board section a bit?

I also am troubled by low-contrast colour schemes. And I'm colour blind. Something my wife wish she'd had known before she asked me for fashion advice. Ah well.

Xentor, did the change help any I have trouble with the light green text on the dark green background, as well as the light green text on the yellow background.

You are the first colour-blind woman I've ever met, Rhiannon Brid. I thought colour-blindness was a male defect, only. Learn something new every day!

So as some of you might of seen I changed the section header text from that greenish color to silvery. I also darkened the green text in board areas a bit but I don't know if it will be noticeable. Xentor is it all of that text for just the small text? Maybe I can bolden it or something. I'm not sure how much darker I can make that text without it being too close to black. I could tinker with the background color of the board sections some more or I can try adding an entirely new color to the fix. However I have no idea what it's like to be color blind... is it anything like viewing the board in a greyscale picture? I also think we should have an easy reading version? As far as easy reading goes: our current, default theme is very easy on my eyes. I find the letters a bit small, even in the mobile version, but my browser lets me zoom in. What colour-blindness is like depends on the specific kind. For instance, I have trouble recognising shade variations in pastels. I don't see a difference between dark brown and dark purple. I do see green and red, but I find difficulty in distinguishing greens and blues.

I was looking for colour-blindness emulators online, but haven't had any luck yet. The ones I found either don't work, or live behind a paywall.

Xentor, I wasn't aware it was a male only trait. I suspect mine might be influenced by my partial blindness. I know that's the reason I can't see in 3D. Apparently, I just can't be a pilot, which is fine by me, cause I hate heights and being in a plane makes me a little claustrophobic. Draco, I got used to it after awhile. I mean, you can't miss what you've never been able to experience right? I just hope that TVs don't become totally 3D because then I'll be screwed.

Draco, I'm all for an easy reading version, if there's sufficient need for it. I'm not having trouble with the colours, so much (or if I am, I don't notice, because it's how I've always seen them) and when it comes to font size, I just use the zoom feature in Firefox, if I need to.
