For starters, copy dress and behaviour styles from those people you deem successfull, people you admire.
If you behave in a certain way for long enough, it becomes a second nature... and finally a first nature. Thus if you behave in a way copied from people you like, chances are you start to find yourself likable too. This increases your confidence.
If you tend to be shy in an interview or presentation, prepare yourself by taking a few minutes beforehand, assuming power poses: stretch your arms out wide, sit broadly, and affirm your skills and determination: yes, yes, yes! Research has shown this to be effective.
Especially women should practice power poses, as our society teaches women to be meak and docile.
What methods have you used to increase your confidence?

I think one of the biggest things about confidence and working on it is realizing that EVERYBODY has to, and that it is a strong point to be able to identify weaknesses in ones self. Turn that into a positive!
I never found confidence or self-respect in emulating people I admire. For me that always made me more aware of my faults and flaws. I did, however, find confidence in focusing on those things that are great about me that may be different from others. Not to say that I am a unique snowflake, but I have an odd combination of talents and attitudes that are all me, and makes for a charming blend.
