So, another big name pagan site is gone, is it likely to come back? does anybody know?
The pagan web seems to be getting smaller and smaller and each time a big site goes (avatarsearch, iamawitch, mysticwicks many, many more) all the content is lost.
I'm a web developer, I have a spare server, if this group wants to move away from pro-boards to something better I can probably help out.
But... I've made this offer after the other two sites I listed got shut down, and people love the idea but are totally unaware as to how much work it takes. Basically, I'd like help... if people think its worth doing.
Is a new site required/wanted or a people happy with the way things are?

well from what I gathered a lot of the pagan sites are usually established by one or two people. and usually are very apprehensive about taking in new people. as admins. or to allow someone to take it over. they go on the levels if I can't run it no one can mentality. anyone that gets too close to either the owner or someone in the admin. staff.they attack or pick fights with to ban or drive out. as they do not want new blood.
so pretty much it powertrips and anti-social mentality that usually. it's just that with certain boards attracted more people than others which caused the attention.
the best advise is this: if you see something you like.copy and paste it to your computer/storage/etc. because it can go at anytime.
there are older forums still up. but pretty much they were either sold to other members or have a joint ownership of it.

Yes, you're right. A lot of community sites seem to go that way. I do have quite a lot of a few old sites backed up, but much of the stuff from mysticwicks will be lost if it is not relaunched.
Would anybody be interested in a 'Pagan archive' site set up to mirror some of the better content out there against future loss?
As I said, I'm a sys admin, and have some servers so if people are interested in new site let me know, and if you'd like to move these forums away from proboards, just let me know.

I'm all for a pagan archive. I'll help. Thank you for your offer, kiakanpa! We have a couple of web devs on here (myself included) who have offered their time and server space. Thus far I have argued that it takes a lot of time and a lot of energy to keep servers up and running safely and securely, and since our last servers perished an untimely death, I would rather have the servers maintained by a large company, than by a single person. The way I can see this work out well, is if we can have paid staff that is knowledgable in various fields of IT and community management. I would set up a Mahara social platform (which was created by the New Zealand government for use by their highschools), and set up several ways to generate income through advertising.
