As far as Pacific Rim goes I thought Robots Smashing Monsters was incredibly dull... I didn't even like the action sequences so even on that level I thought the movie was bad. Only thing about it I liked was the CGI which was pretty much flawless, and that's a huge compliment.
The SO and I saw The War Z today, I assumed it was going to be a mindless brute of a movie but it was quite immersive and enjoyable. Not a gold movie, but one of the better ones I've seen this year for sure. It may have been a case of expectations I expected zero quality and was rewarded with a pleasant surprise. It was not perfect and I would never spend money to watch it again like buying a dvd but I would watch it if it came on tv for background noise.

We saw Despicable Me 2 over the weekend. Super cute. Minions are awesome. Pretty good for a non-Disney movie, anyways (and that's a joke because I'm so Disney-obsessed).

I have no desire to see WWZ because they took the name, and nothing else, from Max Brooks' novel. Brooks' novel, BTW, is best experienced as an audiobook. It features the voice talents of Alan Alda, Mark Hamill, and Rob Reiner, among others.

I'm seeing Pacific Rim tomorrow. We just printed our tickets. Sharknado I watched today, I was underwhelmed. I really want to see The Conjuring! I too want to see the Conjuring - it's supposed to have garnered a "R" rating due to it's scariness factor alone. Not due to gore or violence. I loved Into Darkness - And have heard good things about Pacific Rim. Still haven't seen Man of Steel yet.

Just got back from seeing Pacific Rim. My standards are much different, and I actually enjoyed it. I'm not one for monsters, robots, smashing, or explosions, but I was impressed. We saw it in imax, which I think helped. I think that on a small screen, it would be pretty boring. I would have liked them to expand on the dinosaur concept a bit more. I love Charlie Day, and I think this was an excellent role for him, although I did get a little confused with his storyline at some point.

I went to see Red2 last Sunday. Incredibly violent, yet funny.
I prefer good dialog to FX.

Just saw World War Z. BF insisted on seeing it because he really enjoyed the book, even though I kept telling him that people have said it sucked. He's really upset now, and feels like he wasted his money.
It had all the right parts to a complete story, and yet it wasn't a complete story. I haven't read the book, zombies aren't my thing, but maybe they left it open for a sequel? There were some holes in the story, and I'll probably think of more over the next few days... I'm good at that, lol. We saw Pacific Rim over the weekend, and I enjoyed it, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized there were lots of loose ends that made me think that lots of dialog scenes got cut out during editing. I don't get that feel from WWZ, though. I get the feeling that they just didn't care enough to elaborate on those things.

The WWZ movie has exactly two things in common with the book: the title, and that they were both made by carbon-based lifeforms.
The books is a series of stories from different viewpoints, from the Chinese doctor who sees the first case to the soldier who fights in the first US battle to an Englishman who rides out the zombie hordes in a castle.
The audiobook is extremely well done, with Mark Hamill, Alan Alda, and Rob Reiner, among others, providing voice to the various characters.

I watched White Nights recently. I know it is a fairly old movie, but I had not seen it previously... Gregory Hines was a great dancer and Mikhail Baryshnikov is amazing and that combination really was a good one.

Better story line. Dialog as good, if not better. More violent. Funnier.

Better story line. Dialog as good, if not better. More violent. Funnier. Agreed on all counts. Also, if you haven't seen the first one, you can still enjoy the second one. You may not be as tied to the characters, but the story stands up on its own well enough that you won't miss much. If you haven't seen the first one, though, you should, just on its own merits.

We saw the first one and loved it; which is why the second one was on our "gotta see" list.
