I'm starting a thread for people to talk about movies...
Mostly because I want to say how excited I am that Pacific Rim comes out today at 7pm in my area.

Is it just me, or have they done a quasi remake of Robot Jox with this movie? From the previews I've seen, there will at least be homages to that little known 1990 scifi classic.
I know they've taken a lot of influences from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Sort of like if Evangelion and Robot Jox had a bastard lovechild.

I can't wait to see it, they have stated that this movie is an homage to the 80s style movies. I def looking forward to a movie that isn't a reboot, an adaptation of some other medium, or sequel/prequel.

I'm quite excited to see Pacific rim, and I hope it salvages my movie going experience. I've been disappointed by two movies I've seen this week "The Lone Ranger", and "This is the End"... It is starting to appear that most movies these days it is in your best interest to not waste your money and wait until they come out on demand for free.

Man of Steel was really good. Though Iron Man 3 disappointed me alot. Iron Man 3 was another recent disappointment for me. It just screamed "look what we can do with our massive budget!" too much flash and not enough underlying drama or development. I've been curious of Man of Steel but I've never been fond of Superman.

its a new superman, darker, cooler. The level of action and sci-fi ness is pretty dang good. Plus great musical score

I know they've taken a lot of influences from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Sort of like if Evangelion and Robot Jox had a bastard lovechild. And the Godzilla movies. There also used to be an anime where the protagonist was a young boy who had a remote-control giant robot to fight giant monsters. I'm excited because I love Del Toro, and I grew up watching the old monster movies as a kid.

Man of Steel was really good. Though Iron Man 3 disappointed me alot. I'm the opposite. Loved what they did with IM3 (although there are a few plot holes, and one wonders how the second Avengers movie will after that ending...spoilers). I did not like Man of Steel. Rob Bricken over at io9 sums up why. Spoilers (like, he goes through the movie scene-by-scene). io9.com/the-most-important-scenes-from-man-of-steel-as-i-remem-516405346

Some friends are talking about going to see "Lone Ranger". I like Johnny Depp, but I've heard the movie is awful. Anyone seen it?

I'm not sure if it is because I've become jaded by the movie industry or not but I could have walked out 1/2 through the film without feeling like I missed out. I just found it to be empty tomfoolery rather than an impressive film. It was more of a movie you watch in 5 years time when regular cable stations are allowed to air it, and you play it in the background while doing something more important and interesting.

Tickets in hand for Pacific Rim in 3D!
It'll be a nice break after the moving in and cosmetic repair madness of the last week.

I'd like to see Pacific Rim. It's the first movie I've actually wanted to see since the first installment of The Hobbit back at Christmas time. ha. This was posted on my Facebook feed today. If I had SyFy, I'd watch it, simply for the ridiculousness of it.

Someone on tumblr was going ape about sharknado...I just assumed it was one of those C- movies that you can find flipping around Canadian day time television.

Last movie I watched in the cinemas was "Into Darkness" in 3D. It was my first 3D movie and I was pleasantly surprised.

Pacific Rim rocked! Don't expect Oscar-level writing, but it is an amazing special-effects movie. It really is an updated "giant robots fight giant monsters" movie, well done enough to avoid being hokey while retaining the feel of the old monster movies.

I'm really kind of bummed to hear that Lone Ranger isn't very good. I so love Johnny Depp. Watched Cloud Atlas recently - meh. Also Beautiful Creatures - horrible. It was nothing like the book, and even had I not read the books, I wouldn't have liked it. (I rarely go to the actual movie theater, so I'm a little behind the times. )

No way should that be three movies, it's just about money. If you don't want movies that aren't about the money, watch Indie Films. Even a budget movie costs a lot of money to make, and production companies really really want to earn it back, and with profit. This is why mainstream movie compromise so much, they're trying to appeal to as large a demographic as possible. That's why I rarely bother going to the cinema (that and I fucking hate cinemas), unless it's big FX movie and I want my senses saturated with mindless awesomeness.

Sharknado I watched today, I was underwhelmed.
I really want to see The Conjuring!

Just returned from Pacific Rim quite possibly the worst movie I will see this year. It failed to hit me on an emotional, intellectual, or even passionate level. I could have just as easily wated a preview of it and absorbed the entirety of the flick. Completely disappointed.

If you've been watching the previews, you know that going it. What it is is the best, most creative pure action movie I've seen in a LONG time.
